Winter Tree Trimming

Winter tree trimming and maintenance are important for the overall health of your trees. While the cold months may seem like a time to let them be, winter can actually be the ideal time to trim trees.  Temperature changes during winter months can significantly contribute to high winds and storms. These temperature fluctuations often create conditions that lead to extreme weather events like strong winds, snowstorms, and even blizzards. While these types of weather events can still wreak havoc on healthy trees, they can cause significant damage to trees that have not been properly maintatined.

Carroll County residents assessing storm damage

Uprooted trees, debris littered parts of Carroll County day after storms

SYKESVILLE, Md. —

Some Carroll County residents woke up to damage and homeowners started assessing and cleaning up Thursday after tornado warnings blanketed the area Wednesday night.

Neighbors in Sykesville and Eldersburg came together to help each other with the task after many watched the storm roll in.

"You could just see everything, like all the different type clouds coming together, getting the energy, and then the next thing you know, it just happened, and I told everybody to get downstairs," said Dave Dudek, a Sykesville resident.

"It sounded like a roar, kind of, and then the sky rumbled. I felt like our house shake maybe," said 8-year-old Gavin, Dudek's son.

A lot of trees were uprooted, debris scattered about, and Bartholow Road remained closed until late Thursday afternoon as crews worked to remove downed wires and trees.

"Just destruction," said Andrew Fitzgerald, a Finksburg resident. "It happened just like that. It was very quick."

The Fitzgeralds hurried to the basement with their four kids as the storm closed in.
They suffered tree damage as well, one into their backyard pool. Their home has siding damage, missing shutters, and part of their porch roof is destroyed.

"It seemed like the noise subsided, so I came back up and I couldn't believe what I was looking at," Fitzgerald said.

The family had never seen anything like Wednesday's storm before, but they consider themselves lucky that they heeded the tornado warning and no one was harmed.

"If you get the alert, don't ignore it. It's for a reason, and even if it comes out to be nothing, at least you're safe. Because you don't want to take that chance on your life," Tricia Fitzgerald said.

The National Weather Service will determine whether it was, in fact, a tornado that touched down in Carroll County.

Great work and the best prices. Had a tree removed, a tree trimmed, and a tree planted. They did great work, they were very fast, and very friendly. Will definitely use them again.

We had several trees removed and also several trimmed. Chris and his team did an excellent job, and am amazed on how great my yard looks. They grinded all the stumps and then laid grass seed and hay and you can't even tell where trees were. I highly recommend them as their cost for all they did was a fraction of what I originally thought it would be.

Third time using Ichabods and I was again, awed by their professionalism and excellent job. Outstanding company with outstanding employees. Chris the owner, personally came put to make sure all was ready to begin the removal of 6 trees and fallen debris. His supervisor Mario was stellar as well, working with me to decide how to best remove a tree next to a fence. The removal, stump grinding, clean up and reseeding of grass as well as putting my fence back up were excellent. Pricing is great as well:) Don't look any further for your tree removal needs. Ichabod's is THE BEST!

The team from Ichabods Tree Service in Manchester, Maryland did an awesome job in our yard. They elevated some of our 100 year oak trees, cut down 2 huge dead trees and placed them exactly where they were supposed to go, cut up the wood into fireplace lengths and even cleaned up the yard when they were finished. I would have them back in a heartbeat. Thank you for such a professional job.

We needed estimates for cutting down one tree and trimming 2 others, plus trimming our neighbors tree that was hanging over our garage. Chris responded very quickly and was out our place to work up an estimate. His prices were very fair for all that they did. They were extra careful to not chew up our lawn with their equipment. They cleaned up everything, as Chris had promised. Over all, they went above and beyond my expectations. The next time we need Tree Service, we won't have to call around for estimates. We know we'll call Ichabod's.

I've been living on a heavily wooded property in Carroll County for over 30 years. During that time, I've used many different tree services. A few years ago, a friend recommended Ichabod's, my neighbors and I won't use anyone else! Since then, they have been out multiple times taking care of dead or damaged trees. They are always on time, courteous, professional, with great communication of when they'll be out and the work that will be done. Every person in their crew treated my property like it was their own. They even graded & seeded after removing large trees and stump grinding. They are simply the best in Carroll County!

We had a large tree fall on our garage. I called Ichabod's in the late afternoon; Chris was out to take a look in about an hour. He quoted us a very fair price. Chris had a crew of five out early the next morning. They did in one day what the other estimates said would be a three day job. They worked with finesse and precision. They had all the right tools/equipment and knew exactly what to do with them. I've never seen a team work together quite so efficiently. They did more work than we had agreed upon in the quote (They cleared and graded more of the yard than we had agreed on. They altered a slope so water would stop running into our garage. They even dug up some plants that were in an area that needed grading so I could replant them elsewhere.)...

We had Icahabods come out to give an estimate for our 30-year-old oak tree that was dying. Chris was so attentive and responsive to our request. Their price was great so we decided to go with them. During the job, the crew was extremely nice, very attentive to the surroundings in our yard and when they were finished they cleaned up like they were never there. I would highly recommend them for tree work. I also love using small local family-owned businesses. Great job! Thank you!
